The Power Situation in Norway as of 07 June 2006

Lysaker, 07 June 2006

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Increased Norwegian production
The production of power in Sweden declined from week 21 to 22 due to maintenance of Swedish nuclear plants. This contributed to increased production of Norwegian hydro power and increased power prices in the Nordic countries. During week 22 the production of electricity increased by nine percent and the net import to Norway was at its lowest since week 12.

The inflow to Norwegian reservoirs was 3.7 TWh or 40 percent lower than normal in week 22. The main reason for the relatively low inflow is small amounts of snow in the mountains. The reservoir level in Norway is at the moment 45.2 percent. In Sweden the reservoir level is 51.6 percent. During week 22 the reservoir level increased by 2.2 percentage points in Norway and 4.6 percentage points in Sweden. The reservoir level in Norway is 2.0 percentage points below normal and the Swedish level is 2.3 percentage points above normal.
