The power situation in Norway as of 11 March 2009

Lysaker, 11 March 2009

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):
Falling power consumption due to warmer weather

The Norwegian power consumption has decreased the last to weeks as temperatures have risen. Lower consumption has made for increased net exports.

Total Norwegian power consumption has been 29.9 TWh so far this year, an increase of 0.7 TWh compared to the same period last year. The temperature in Oslo has been -3.2 degrees on average this winter, compared to an average of 1.4 degrees last winter. Corrected for temperatures, there has been a decrease in Norwegian power consumption compared to last year. Less use of electricity in the power intensive industry has contributed to the decrease.
