The power situation in Norway as of 9 September 2009

Lysaker, 9 September 2009

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Norway

The electricity prices in Southern Norway averaged 19.6 øre/kWh in week 36. That is 12.3 øre lower than in Sweden and 14.5 øre lower than in Zealand. The average elspot price in Southern Norway hasn't been that low since week 14, 2008. High inflow and lower consumption in a situation with low transmission capacity to Sweden resulted in cheap power in Southern Norway.
In Mid and North Norway the average price for the week was 26.5 øre/kWh and 26.6 øre/kWh respectively, nearly the same as the previous week. It was not as much precipitation and inflow in these areas as there was in Southern Norway.
