CyberShift, American Payroll Association and Workforce Opportunity Services Join Forces to Promote Financial Literacy

Second Annual "Bring Home the Gold" Workshop to Be Presented During APA's National Payroll Week

PARSIPPANY, NJ--(Marketwire - July 22, 2010) -  For the second consecutive year, CyberShift, a global provider of workforce management and expense management software and services, will sponsor the financial education session, "Bring Home the Gold," during the American Payroll Association's National Payroll Week. The workshop-style session will provide actionable insights into maximizing earnings for increased savings and financial security for the students of Workforce Opportunity Services (WOS), a non-profit organization that places talented, driven young adults from America's inner-city, rural and underserved areas in scholarship programs that teach them practical IT skills, and provide them with an opportunity to chart their own path to personal, professional and financial independence.

"Bring Home the Gold" will take place on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET at Rutgers-Newark, The State University of New Jersey, Newark, N.J. The event is designed to help students build skills to support financial literacy by understanding the complexities of their paychecks. Presenters include Thomas Altier, CPA, chief financial officer at CyberShift, Dr. Arthur Langer, chairman of WOS and faculty member at Columbia University, and Colleen Flores, a board member of the North Jersey Chapter representing the American Payroll Association (APA).

"WOS was built on the principle that if given a fair opportunity, inner-city and low-income individuals can excel. Gaining basic money management knowledge and an understanding of the economic system can provide the necessary tools that will enable our students to navigate towards long-term success and stability," commented Dr. Arthur Langer. "With the help of CyberShift and the APA, select WOS students will have the opportunity to participate in educational sessions that help them understand the building blocks of financial success."

Throughout the event, presentations will range from calculating a paycheck, understanding paycheck deductions and why saving now can change the future. Specific topics include how to understand a paycheck stub and what the deductions mean; saving tips and tricks for today that help for tomorrow; how to utilize Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA) to stretch paycheck dollars; and your responsibilities and rights as an employee and a taxpayer.

"A paycheck opens doors to opportunity when managed correctly," said Thomas Altier, CPA, chief financial officer at CyberShift. "By knowing where their money is going from the start, young workers can take control of their finances and put more money in their pockets each payday."

Dwain Sotilleo of Maplewood, N.J., an attendee at last year's event, commented, "This was a terrific hands-on opportunity to learn what I needed to know about stretching my paycheck and getting the most I can from my money. The instructors really took the time to help us 'get it' and be in charge of our financial future."
