Insurance up to the age of 100

Press Release

Prevention, treatment and recovery are part of comprehensive insurance of the person. Pohjola stresses health and wellbeing by renewing its health insurance system. The new insurance will provide much better coverage for expenses arising from taking care of your health. What's more, the upper age limit for such insurance has been raised to 100.

Pohjola Insurance extends insurance of the person. We offer our customers even more extensive treatment for the benefit of their health and wellbeing. The key things are to ensure people's wellbeing, to prevent illnesses and to help them recover quickly from accidents.

"Insurance is no longer only seen as protection against worst-case scenarios but as means of staying fit for longer. Existing accident and medical treatment expense policies focus mainly on treatment. We have changed the health and wellbeing insurance policies to respond to the needs of private customers of today," says Pohjola Insurance's President Jouko Pölönen.

The new health insurance can promote your health, enable quick treatment and get support to recover from an illness or accident. The new health insurance includes, for example, dental cover and rehabilitating psychotherapy and physiotherapy treatment. What's more, coverage does not end when the patient is sent home. You can get help for your daily life and home adaptation. Another new feature is that we provide support for improving your physical condition if it is considered to help prevent a serious illness.

Age limits extended

Previously people who were over 65 could not insure themselves against illnesses. Insurance coverage usually ended about the time you retired and occupational health care was no longer available. New the upper limit is much higher, at 100 years.

"One of the most persistent requests by our customers was to raise the age limit. The new traveller's insurance will also be valid until the age of 100," says Mr Pölönen.

Quicker treatment, quicker recovery

In supporting people's wellbeing, the key thing to do when an accident occurs is to provide treatment quickly and to shorten the treatment period.

Omasairaala, a hospital established by Pohjola Insurance providing outpatient surgery, focuses on the examination and treatment of orthopaedic illnesses and injuries and has been able to almost halve the average treatment periods.

"The hospital's operating idea is to provide overall care for the customer. Excellent care and satisfied customers are our main priorities," says Mr Pölönen.

Finns insure their property better than themselves

Although Finns consider it important to insure themselves and their family members in case of illnesses, this is clearly outweighed by insurance they take out, for example, for their car or against home losses (OP-Pohjola Consumer Barometer 2012).

Less than a third of Finns have taken out medical expenses insurance, whereas 86% have home insurance and 56% have voluntary motor insurance (Federation of Finnish Financial Services, Finnish insurance in 2012).
