“Break the Glass Ceiling – The Sky is the Limit”, Almas Jiwani Speaks at TELUS International’s “Connections” Group Meeting: A Women’s Network to Promote Women Empowerment Among its Workforce

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Oct. 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Almas Jiwani, CEO of the Almas Jiwani Foundation and a global voice for gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, addressed the TELUS International women’s group “Connections” at TELUS International’s offices in Santa Tecla, El Salvador on October 11th, 2018.

Miss Jiwani presented a motivating opening speech about how women can continue to seek opportunities to reach their full potential, and also took part in a panel exchange to help facilitate discussion on the challenges young Salvadoran women face today. Over 50 women from middle and upper management attended the meeting, and key TELUS International leaders shared in the dialogue. The meeting concluded with a tour of TELUS International’s impressive facilities just outside San Salvador.

"We are honored to welcome Ms. Almas Jiwani and have her speak and inspire our team members. This has been a very special event for Connections - the TELUS women's network, a special group within the company that promotes the empowerment of women, and their professional and personal growth. Connections - the TELUS women's network, is an initiative from our parent company TELUS, and El Salvador was the first country in TELUS International to have its own Connections chapter. Group members participate in leadership development opportunities, volunteer together in their communities, and connect with one another at networking events," said Jose Calderon, VP of Operations for El Salvador.

I am often asked if I agree that women’s empowerment is more about mindsets than anything else. I agree that for us to see material change in this area, it requires that men and women in society start from a premise that we are equals, and that is indeed a mindset change.
That’s a mindset that accepts that women are as capable as men of running a country, or an organization. It’s a mindset that does not automatically devalue the worth of an idea or task simply because it has been fulfilled historically by a woman. It’s a mindset that does not think it is a waste of resources to educate women and give them access to resources,” said Almas Jiwani, CEO of Almas Jiwani Foundation.

Almas concluded her presentation by asking attendees: “What would our collective future look like if we – as women – actually defined our lives for ourselves? If we chose to shake off the restrictions forced on us by our backgrounds, the expectations of family and those close to us, and by what we are told by others are our limitations? How much more could we - as women - achieve?” added Jiwani.
