Nokia’s broadband network access equipment, the Nokia D50e DSLAM and the Nokia M11 have passed the final tests from the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) and gained licenses for network access.
“We are proud to be the first company to gain DSL licenses in China. Broadband networks and services are a key step in the Internet revolution and Nokia is taking a leading role in providing DSL broadband access equipment in the world today. This announcement underlines the technical and innovative aspects of Nokia's approach to the provision of xDSL networks, and our commitment to the Chinese market," said Malcolm Arnold, Vice President, System Business, Nokia (China) Investment Co. LTD, Nokia Networks.
DSL is a technology that enables higher bandwidth over copper lines to provide additional services such as streaming media, secure remote work and fast Internet access at connection speeds that typically range from 1.5 Mbps to 6/8Mbps.
The Nokia D50e enables both traditional and emerging operators to provide end-users with broadband access, making full use of existing network resources and coverage and providing selectable bandwidth to satisfy the increasing demand for high-speed Internet access. Working with Nokia’s other IP (Internet Protocol) products, the Nokia D50e will enable operators to establish an optimum DSL broadband access system.
The M11 is DSL subscribers’ location network equipment. It provides high-speed Internet services for homes and offices, supporting fast net-surfing, high bandwidth information exchange and personal communication such as optimized high-speed data and image transmission. It also provides the best Internet access for those who work or entertain themselves at home. The access speed is 10 to 100 times faster than traditional modems.
Nokia is paving the way to the mobile information society with its innovative products and solutions. Nokia is the leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks, related services as well as multimedia terminals. In 1999, net sales totaled EUR 19.8 billion (USD 19.9 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki, Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges and employs more than 56,000 people.
