Palo Alto, Calif., May 25, 2004 -GlooLabs, a software company focused on the wireless distribution of multimedia content around networks today announced that Innovent, an entrepreneurial innovation unit in Nokia (NYSE: NOK), has invested in the company.
Gloolabs' software technology, called GLOO, allows digital media stored on a computer or media server to be accessed through any GLOO-enabled hardware device on the network. GLOO is Java-based, making the technology interoperable with multiple operating systems and easily portable to different hardware platforms.
"Whereas many companies are focused on providing access to third party content, GLOO-enabled devices provide users with greater access to their own multimedia content," says David Arfin, CEO of GlooLabs. "In the next phase of the digital media revolution, an explosion of digital media devices will distribute music, photos, and video around the home and beyond. GlooLabs' GLOO technology enables consumer electronic manufacturers, handset makers and wireless carriers to rapidly bring new products and services to market for the next generation digital entertainment world."
The first product to incorporate GLOO is the award-winning HomePod(TM), by MacSense Connectivity (www.macsense.com). HomePod(TM) is a network audio player that allows users to enjoy their own music and Internet radio from anywhere in the house. HomePod(TM) awards include: Popular Mechanics CES Editor's Choice, COMDEX Best of Show Finalist, and ElectronicaUSA Best of Show.
"Technology is changing the way that people create, store and manage their digital content, and people are looking for new ways to access their unique personal content," says Stephanie Keller-Bottom, Director of Innovent. "The GLOO technology provides a platform that will allow people to extend the reach of their personal content."
"Nokia is a recognized leader in mobile communications," says Arfin. "We are excited about the opportunity to work with Innovent to create opportunities for consumers to enhance their mobile entertainment experience."
