RTI Delivers Industry-First Simple Solution for Building Complex Distributed Systems Quickly

New Solution Provides Real World Use Case Examples and Working, Reusable DDS Code

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 20, 2013) - Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the real-time infrastructure software company, today introduced Case + Code, the first and only developer solution to provide the use cases, real coding and configuration needed to easily build complex distributed systems and quickly solve real world problems.

Building distributed systems can be difficult and becomes even more so when systems have special requirements, such as low-latency or massive scalability. RTI Connext Data Distribution Service (DDS) is a high-performance middleware solution designed to solve many of the problems often associated with building a complex distributed system. As the world's leading DDS implementation provider, RTI is leveraging its real world experience to make it easier for others to get started.

Case + Code is a collection of common use cases, complete with reusable working DDS code and configuration guidance, that helps quickly take uses from a data-distribution problem to a working application. Case + Code use cases include:

Vehicle Tracking
This use case applies to those trying to distribute vehicle location or radar track data across a network, in real-time. Whether creating an air traffic control system, tracking trains, unmanned air vehicles in the arena or a fleet of emergency vehicles responding to a crisis, this solution allows users to send updates about many vehicles, and to tune their systems for sending those updates at very high rates.

This solution highlights how to use the RTI Connext DDS peer-to-peer middleware to send high-performance vehicle tracking data. RTI Connext DDS lets users fine-tune data streams for their networks, and trade off latency and throughput - all through configuration, enabling higher performance and scalability without changing their source.

Real-Time LAN Data Over a WAN
This use case applies to those trying to connect multiple real-time local networks together, or a single real-time local network to another network over a wide area network (WAN). The RTI Case + Code solution supports scenarios where each local area network (LAN) site may be a cluster of many RTI Connext DDS applications distributing large amounts of data that should not be sent across the WAN. This solution also supports scenarios where sites are geographically distant from each other, and where bandwidth must be conserved.

This solution highlights how to use RTI Connext DDS high-performance, peer-to-peer middleware to send real-time data within a LAN, or optionally over a WAN. It describes how to use the RTI Routing Service tool to bridge a subset of data between different subsystems. Whether hooking up networks across the Internet, or sending data from space, this solution will help deploy real-time applications across a WAN.

Distributed Video Data
This use case applies to those trying to stream video, audio or other streaming media to one or more receivers. This solution supports scenarios with one or more data sources, and one or more receivers of data streams. RTI can even stream video data over a low-bandwidth satellite connection.

This solution highlights how to use RTI Connext DDS high-performance, peer-to-peer middleware to stream real-time media data over a network. RTI Connext DDS supports a variety of Quality of Service (QoS) policies, including reliable delivery of data over multicast. In addition, RTI Connext DDS provides a built-in dynamic discovery mechanism that allows applications to discover sources of videos, which videos are available and metadata about video streams. RTI Connext DDS is also available on a variety of platforms, so it can be used to seamlessly send data from embedded systems to desktop machines.
